Fairy Hammocks
The term Fairy Hammock, was coined by Jo Brand, it alludes to old fashioned sanitary towels which had loops on each end, and did indeed look like hammocks only big enough for fairies.

This offer applies to any 5 Fairies that you buy - we will add one to your order as it is made. If you order 3 heavy flow and one medium and one pant your free one can be a heavy a medium or a pant. If you order 3 pant and 2 medium the free pad can only be a pant liner. If you order 2 heavy, 2 medium and a pant liner the free pad will be a medium or a pant liner.
Our reusable Fairy Hammocks are comfortable, thin, absorbent and funky!!!!. They consist of a layer of waterproof yet breathable PUL, inner layers of cotton jersey, hemp fleece or bamboo toweling, and finally a layer of either Cotton, Cotton Jersey, ORGANIC Cotton Jersey, Cotton Velour, Velboa (Polyester), Minkee (polyester) or Microfleece (polyester).
All pant liners will be made with one all over layer of Organic Cotton Jersey. This stops stitching showing in the central area of the pad and gives the pad a neater look. It also increases the absorbancy of the pad without increasing the bulk significantly and helps give the pad a firmer structure, which in turn helps the pad stay put in you underwear . Medium flow pads will be constructed in the same way BUT there will be an added layer of your chosen fabric or 2 extra layers if you choose Organic Cotton Jersey.
Fairy Hammocks stay lovely and soft even in hard water areas, (probably best not to choose hemp as an inner in known hard water areas) they feel like lingerie to the touch so they are very comfortable to wear. The 3 layer combination of the PUL, and your chosen inner and top fabric make these pads slim but absorbent.
Liquid is absorbed quickly through the Top layer and into the inner fabric, where it is kept away from your clothing by the PUL layer. The cotton jersey and microfleece pads are slightly thicker than the lycra and cotton limited edition ones and the Cotton Velour pads are the thickest of all although still slim compared to shop bought pads.
The Fairy Hammocks are fastened by poppers.
Absorbent Layers:
Light Flow/Pant Liner = 1 inner layer of Organic Cotton Jersey fabric.
Medium Flow = 1 inner layer of Organic Cotton Jersey plus a core central area of the fabric of your choice.
Heavy Flow = 3 inner layers of absorbent fabric (OR 5 layers of jersey).
Wall to Wall = 3 layers of fabric stretching from wall to wall for full pad coverage or 5 layers of cotton jersey.
FAIRY CARE:
If you have a child in cloth nappies simply pop your used pad into your nappy bucket (If you want to minimise stains you can give them a quick rinse under the cold tap) and wash using the instructions below. If you have brightly coloured pads and white nappies wash with your normal clothes wash for at least the first few washes. If you do not have a child in cloth nappies use a suitable storage container (i.e. an airtight plastic box) and wash with like colours. Some folk like to store their Cloth San Pro in salted water. This is probably good advice for the cotton tops to minimise staining.
Maximum Wash Temperature 60 degrees C - we reccomend 40 degree washes to minimise the impact on the environment and keep your Fairies looking newer for longer.
Wee Notions cloth san pro can be tumble dried on a LOW heat setting only.
Do not iron.
Do not chlorine bleach.
Not suitable for dry cleaning.
Wash with LIKE colours.
WASHING WARNING: Please be careful if you are washing your Fairy Hammocks with anything fastened with Aplix, as it could damage your pad. If you are washing with anything containing Aplix we recommend washing your Fairy Hammocks inside a pillow case (or similar).
What fabric combination should I choose?
This is really a matter of personal choice. The thickness and absorbency of the pads should be similar for all fabrics. You need to bear in mind that if you have an absorbent top layer this will of course make the pad more absorbent. So if you go for a cotton top the top layer will have absorption properties that a Minkee top pad for example - would not.
How Many pads do I need?
This depends on how many pads you use in a day and how often you wash them. If you use 6 in a day and wash them every day then you may get away with six. If you wash your pads every other day then you would need 12 etc.
What size are the pads?
The regular Fairies are 23.5cm long by 16.5cm opened out and closed they are 7cm wide on the widest popper setting and 5.7cm on the smaller popper setting.
The Cup Fairies are 20cm long by 17.5cm wide when open - when closed there are three setting choices of 7.5cm, 6.2cm and the smallest which is 5cm although the smallest may cause bunching of your underwear so is not recommended. All measurements are approximate as all of the Fairies are hand made.
The width of the extra long pads is similar to the regular pads but the length of the extra long pad is 12 inches and the wall to wall pads are 14 inches long and a little wider to accommodate the extra thickness of the pads.
